Joanna's Quick Review
For this review, I performed product testing with three different kinds of paper towel. They included: Roll Up’s bamboo paper towel (2-ply), a Canadian-made paper towel (2-ply & made from recycled paper), and another Canadian-made paper towel (2-ply & made from regular paper).
Here’s how they compared!
Experiment #1: I secured a piece of paper towel over a bowl with an elastic band and dampened the towel. I placed pennies (yes, I still have a stash of pennies at home!) and quarters on top of the paper
towel until it broke due to the weight.
Paper Towel #1 (recycled paper)– I was amazed at how much weight this paper towel could hold! It held 170 coins in total (136 pennies and 34 quarters).
Paper Towel #2 (regular paper)– This paper towel did not hold nearly as much weight. It only held 44 coins until it broke (all pennies).
Paper Towel #3 (Roll Up’s bamboo paper towel)– This paper towel held the most weight with 193 coins in total! (136 pennies and 57 quarters)
Experiment #2: I poured 75 ml of water into a measuring cup and put it into a bowl. I tested how much water each paper towel could absorb in 10 seconds and then measured the remaining amount of liquid in the bowl.
Paper Towel #1 (recycled paper)– I was surprised to observe that this paper towel only soaked up 2 ml out of the 75 ml of water!
Paper Towel #2 (regular paper)– This paper towel also only soaked up 2 ml of liquid in total.
Paper Towel #3 (Roll Up’s bamboo paper towel)– This paper towel soaked up 14 ml of water, which made it the winner!
Paper Towel Experiment Conclusion
Based on my findings, Roll Up’s bamboo paper towel was the strongest and most absorbent of the varieties I tested. To touch, all three had about the same thickness. At first, I thought the bamboo rolls seemed smaller in size compared to the other two kinds. However, I quickly noticed that the bamboo sheets are wound much more tightly around the roll. I also observed that the bamboo towels have a tighter ‘knit’ design. I am wondering if this is a reason why it is stronger and more absorbent? Or, perhaps, it’s solely because bamboo fibers are more durable than tree pulp fibers.
Overall, I am happy with Roll Up’s bamboo paper towel. I have used more absorbent towels in the past, but they were likely larger in size (not paper-saving half-sheets) and 3-ply. I think these bamboo towels are a good environmentally friendly option and work well for everyday messes and spills. However, if you have a more major spill to clean, I always suggest using a tea-towel or a regular towel instead. That way you won’t waste sheets and sheets of paper whether it be traditional tree-based or bamboo.
